Welcome to  The Joy of Fly Tying and the world of fly tying. Fly tying is a great way to save money as individual flies can get quiet expensive. Plus fly tying makes a great hobby for life, but be aware, fly tying can become very addictive although it’s a great addiction.

The thing about flies is that they last forever, if you just keep them on display, but when you are out fly fishing and actually using those flies they are going to slowly, sometimes rather quickly, get destroyed. If not by the fish themselves then by the rocks, logs, trees, whatever gets in the way of that fly.

Once you beat a fly to death you then have to either fork out the bucks for a new one or sit down and tie a few yourself. I prefer the latter myself. I will admit that I do buy flies as well, there are just too many that I want and only so much time, so I tie the ones I am used to and just buy those I don’t care to take the time on.
