Another Great Afternoon With Casey And Lake Petit

- Image via Wikipedia
I was working in my office, as usual, when the phone rang and it was Casey on the other end. “Are you up for fishing this afternoon?”
My response was “Well Yeah!!”
An hour later we were on our way to Lake Petit. The water wasn’t churned up nearly as much as it had been on our previous trips.
The wind was very minimal and the water was almost smooth. I was excited and ready to get fishing, but knew we would have to head up river for the next 15 minutes. But I was in for a surprise.
We no sooner got headed up and Casey turned his boat around and headed toward shore. We fished a few new spots he had not taken me to when the wind was blowing so hard on our last trips.
Casey caught the first fish and it hit hard, I am sure he fought it for almost a minute before he landed the first 10 inch smallmouth, very smallmouth bass. But you know, it still was the first fish, congrats Casey.
I took a close up so y’all could see it. I had to use the zoom lense.
Casey gently removed the hook from the litte guy’s mouth and let him go.
It always amazes me how big a lure these little smallmouth bass will go after.
It was a good feeling to start off with a bass in the first few minutes, it doesn’t matter the size.
I was glad I brought my heavy jacket as it was a bit chilly as soon as the sun was covered by clouds. I had my son buzz off my hair a couple of days ago and I could feel the cold wind going across my kneck. The jacket was perfect to cut that wind.
I think it was my turn to catch a bass but Casey forgot that and a few minutes later he was slammed by another bass, this time it was a nice bass.
The first one I let Casey land it alone but I thought I would put my camera down and use his net to just make sure it made it aboard safely.
Much more respectable bass, Casey loves his Rapala. I guess on that note I better change up and put on a Rapala myself, so I put one on that looked like the one Casey was using.
Casey removed his secret weapon and released him. Then he asked me how long it was because he forgot to use the yard stick he has attached to his boat, so I looked up and smile, then said it went about 10 inches I think.
