I guess the saying is true, if you don’t like the weather here in New Brunswick just wait a few minutes and it will change. I will admit it’s not completely true as we do get a lot of really nice weather at this time of year so I will wait a few more days.
On another topic, my backyard garden and flowers are doing great. Hope they can survive long enough for the rain to stop and the water to drain a bit.
For me the Atlantic salmon fishing on the fly really starts to pick up in the fall. Probably because the water starts to cool down a bit and they start moving more. I find that I do have fun in the early spring and during the summer months but the time I seem to catch the most Altantic salmon on the fly is during the fall from September through to the end of the season here.
This year I have been really busy with my online business and web design, plus my newest hobby backyard gardening and the many other things that can get in the way of a good fishing season. I am not complaining, well okay maybe a little, but I will get out more now that I have caught up a bit on the yard work.
Even though life tends to get a bit busy I still like to sit on the river bank or a big rock, have a nice cup of java and watch the salmon roll and jump. It’s something I never tire of. Well okay, I do get to the point where I just can’t sit any longer and have to wet a line.
One pool I just love had a few huge boulders right in the middle of the river. They are also pretty easy to wade to and climb on. A great spot to eat lunch and watch the other fly fishing fanatics.
Atlantic salmon fishing on the fly doesn’t mean you’re catching those salmon. I have gone for days without hooking an Atlantic salmon but I think that is what keeps me coming back. There is no way they are laughing at me and getting away with it.
At high tide that rock is almost completely under water and is the same spot that I hooked my first double digit salmon, at 17 pounds. What an exciting day.
It was raining just enough to keep my wife in the car where she promptly fell asleep and missed all the action. Okay there wasn’t a whole lot of action. I fished for hours, while she slept, without as much as seeing a salmon but in an instant that all changed.
That big rock has a special place in my heart but unfortunately the salmon was too big to keep and my wife never got to see it. She was so excited for me that she doesn’t even remember that day.
Well the weather people are saying the rain is going to stop later today and the temperature is soon suppose to start rising again. I nearly had to go into a shop yesterday while I was on my walk just to warm up.
